How to locate and save a Kaltura video recording to your computer

Kaltura saves all of your screen recordings and webcam recordings directly onto your computer. Then, it gives you the option to upload the recording straight to your My Media space on Kaltura. If you ever have trouble with the upload step, or if you just want to keep a local copy handy on your computer, keep on reading!

If you recorded the video using the Kaltura Screen Recorder or Webcam Recorder web apps (no installation required), then skip to the instructions below.

If you used CaptureSpace Lite...

All videos you record through the Kaltura CaptureSpace Lite desktop app will be downloaded onto your computer automatically. To locate the folder that contains your video, please take the following steps:

  1. Load the Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder program on your computer.
  2. Click on the Settings tab in the app. Then, highlight all of the text inside the textbox underneath the Local Media File Storage section. Copy the text to your clipboard.
  3. On a PC: Go to Windows Explorer (My Computer). Paste the text into either the folder path bar across the top or the search box in the top-right. Press the Enter key on your keyboard. Depending on your version of Windows, these instructions may vary, so don't hesitate to call us at 850.644.8004 if you get stuck!
    On a Mac: Click on the Finder icon and select the Go option at the top-left, and select Go to Folder. Then, paste the text from the Settings tab into the text box and press Go.
  4. Move the video file to your computer's desktop. Each Kaltura video saved to your computer will be inside a folder. It may be difficult to find out which video you want to select. To find out which video is the one you want to select, you can click on the Date Modified organizer at the top and search for the video for the time when you made the video.

If you used one of the web apps...

All videos you record through the Kaltura Screen Recorder and Kaltura Webcam Recorder apps on your browser are temporarily saved onto your computer before you upload them to Kaltura's servers. To locate the folder that contains your video, please take the following steps:

On Windows:

  1. Ensure that hidden files and folders are able to be viewed on your computer. Access your Control Panel. Click on Appearance and Personalization and access Folder Options. A popout menu will appear. Click on the View tab. Under Advanced Settings, locate "Hidden files and folders" and bubble in Show hidden files, folders, and drive.
    Click OK to exit.
  2. Locate the mpeg file in the following location:
    • Windows XP:
      C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Kaltura
    • Windows Vista and later:
      C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Kaltura
  3. Save the mpeg video file to another location.
  4. If you need to upload the video to Kaltura, please see How to upload video files to Kaltura.

On Mac:

  1. Locate Go in Finder's menu
  2. Click on the "Go to..." option in Finder.
  3. Type in "/Users/yourusername/Library" (Your username is the name that appears in the top right corner of your Mac).
  4. Access the Kaltura folder. Locate the mpeg video file and copy it to another location.
